The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Great is your faithfulness, God our creator
morning by morning new mercies we see
the countless ways you reveal yourself to us,
and bless us with signs of your grace.
Today we praise you for grace in the water,
the crashing water from which you sculpted creation,
the water of the Red Sea you led your people through
out of slavery and into freedom
the water you caused to pour forth from the rock
when the sand of the desert choked them.
The waterfalls the prophets used
to remind us of your justice,
which flows like an ever-running stream.
The water of the Jordan,
where Jesus was baptized for us,
with us,
that we might be one with him.
The water of the Galilean Sea,
where he called his disciples,
and preached from boats,
and taught Peter to walk through the waves.
The water in a basin in an upper room,
with which Jesus washed his disciples’ tired feet.
The water that poured from his side,
when he hung upon the cross.
The watery dew of the garden,
where Mary Magdalene went to honor the dead
and found her living Lord instead.
The water of our own lives
water to drink and cook with and bathe in,
days of rain to refresh the earth
beauty of lakes and rivers and oceans
to renew our spirits.
Grace of life and new life
at every turn.
Great is your faithfulness, God our creator
morning by morning new mercies we see.
Here in this water, we join in Christ’s death and resurrection,
are set free from the bondage of sin and death,
and are cleansed and reborn.
Here in this water, you give us your Holy Spirit,
who teaches us and leads us into all truth,
filling us with a variety of gifts,
that we might proclaim the gospel to all nations
and serve you as a royal priesthood.
Pour out your Spirit upon us
and upon this water,
that this font may be your womb of new birth.
Great is your faithfulness
to your servant [name]
who now passes through these waters.
Deliver him from death to life,
from bondage to freedom,
from sin to righteousness.
Bind him to the household of faith,
guard him from all evil.
Strengthen him to serve you with joy
until the day you make all things new.
To you be all praise, honor, and glory;
through Jesus Christ our Savior,
who, with you and the Holy Spirit,
lives and reigns forever.
